The evolution of the Southern United Sprints began in 2011 when I introduced the nationally known Racesaver Sprint rules to the region after years of local sprint car racing had diminished.
The 2011 season started with 4-5 sprints racing on a bi-weekly basis. In 2012, the Southern United Sprints exploded with an average of 12-15 sprints on a bi-weekly basis. Then in 2013, the class got even bigger with an average of 19 for the season. At this time, the Southern United Sprints began to travel from our home track, Gator Motorplex, in which I successfully owned and promoted for 17 years, to other tracks around Texas and Louisiana.
In 2014, the Southern United Sprints ventured out to other race tracks in the region for special event races averaging 29 sprint cars per race event. Then history has been made over the next several years with the Southern United Sprints, with our series drivers being recognized as the highest national points participants in IMCA within the top ten, along with the youngest national Rookie of the Year in 2019. This past season SUS had 55 registered drivers racing with us throughout the year.
As the Southern United Sprints exploded in its series over the past several years, the growth and enthusiasm amongst drivers, spectators, and track owners supporting and following the Southern United Sprint has been outstanding creating recognition for the series, drivers, and sponsors.
